Account Information: When you register or log in via Firebase Authentication, we store basic account credentials (such as your email address and unique user ID) to manage your account and authenticate your listing submissions.
Sale Listing Data: When you submit a garage sale listing, we collect and store on our servers:
Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) derived from the provided address.
Your IP address at the time of posting for security and spam prevention purposes.
Device Location Data (Search & Filtering):
While searching for sales, the app accesses your device’s current GPS location. This search location data is processed locally on your device using in-memory calculations (Haversine formula) to determine distances and filter nearby sales. Your live search location is never transmitted to or stored on our servers.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely for the following purposes:
Displaying Listings: To publish user-created garage sale listings publicly on our map and list views so nearby users can discover them.
Distance Calculations: To calculate proximity (in miles) between a user and published sale locations.
Platform Security: To detect and prevent abuse, fraudulent postings, and spam via account verification and IP tracking on submission.
Account Management: To allow you to manage, update, or remove listings you have created.
3. Data Sharing and Third-Party Services
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We utilize trusted third-party infrastructure providers to support app operations:
Firebase Authentication (Google): For secure user account login and identity verification.
Apple App Store & Google Play Services: For core app distribution and platform features (such as location APIs).
Hosting Provider: Our backend API and database are hosted securely on web server infrastructure (A2 Hosting) with standard encryption and access controls.
4. Data Retention and Security
Listing Retention: Sale listings and associated coordinates remain stored in our database for as long as necessary to serve active users or until deleted by the user or administrator.
Security Measures: We employ industry-standard protocols, including HTTPS/SSL encryption for all data in transit between the app and our server API endpoints, to protect against unauthorized access.
5. User Rights and Data Removal
